Animaná, an example of how one person's passion can impact the lives of so many others and change their destinies.

Adriana Marina—economist and creator of animaná and the NGO Hecho x Nosotros—spent her childhood surrounded by the natural landscapes and local fauna of Patagonia, in Santa Cruz, Argentina. Beyond the beauty of the place, Adriana also witnessed the social inequality in the treatment of rural communities, the conflicts surrounding working conditions, and the loss of Andean arts due to the imminent exodus to the cities. With the dream of building a project that allows us to rethink and work on fashion from a respectful and moral perspective, in 2009 Adriana founded animaná , a sustainable luxury brand that makes garments from natural fibers from Patagonia and the Andes with the aim of preserving local communities, caring for the environment, and generating local wealth. How? By training artisans and producers, prioritizing sustainable production processes, and generating an ethical, sustainable, and transparent work and value chain . This is how animaná was born, which means "a place in heaven" in the Kakán language, a certified B company with a triple impact —social, environmental, and economic—that works to generate added value in local communities through fair trade and to achieve a balance between the textile industry, the environment, and ethical labor. Currently, animaná collaborates with more than 20,000 artisans from different communities in the Andes, who produce all types of garments: sweaters, cardigans, ponchos, ruanas, shirts, blankets, shawls, scarves, dresses, pants, and other products. From 2015 to 2019, animaná had its store in Paris (France), thanks to the invaluable support of Dominique Peclers, a global fashion expert with more than 50 years of experience in the luxury market, who fell in love with animaná. In addition to having been in Europe, animaná now has its boutique in Buenos Aires (Argentina).

animaná and Hecho x Nosotros: Together for a global education that leads us to systemic change.

In 2009, together with animaná, Adriana Marina founded the non-profit NGO “Hecho por Nosotros” , which has consultative status with the United Nations, with the aim of deepening the transformation of the sustainable fashion paradigm and proposing a new way of conceiving the textile industry, where the focus is on quality, the manufacturing process and ethical work . Hecho x Nosotros focuses on establishing fashion not only as an agent of change and local development, but also as a means to educate and disseminate the principles of sustainable fashion, create channels that link the offer of ethical fashion in Latin America and international markets, promote work networks that allow the generation and dissemination of theoretical tools, and prioritize work ethics, thus contributing to the paradigm shift of sustainable fashion through example. Hecho x Nosotros is then the means that allows us to empower artisans and preserve memory, culture and collective knowledge. Through both projects, Adriana has a clear objective: to revalue the camelid fiber value chain and work toward a more ethical, transparent, and inclusive fashion industry.

Legend

The role of local communities

Since its inception in 2009, Adriana has brought together cooperatives, artisans, and producers , creating alliances with the best artisans in the Andes and establishing direct collaboration with each of the local communities. Thanks to this holistic approach without intermediaries, the Andean communities with which Animaná works have tripled their production capacity, generating greater profits and transforming artisan families into local entrepreneurs. This has allowed Adriana to contribute to the economic and human development of the communities, restoring their pride and the value of their ancestral wisdom.

Did you know that women make up 85% of weavers?

The role of women is central to the sustainable business model of animaná and Hecho x Nosotros. With the income from their work, these women have not only managed to support their households, open a bank account, and access healthcare services, but they have also become self-sufficient, improving their self-esteem and confidence both inside and outside their workplace. The projects aim to achieve systemic change and ecosystem transformation through comprehensive and cooperative work between artisans, designers, professionals, businesses, and consumers. This is why animaná and Hecho x Nosotros promote social awareness toward sustainable development and propose redirecting the fashion industry toward a path that is respectful of the environment and its workers, promoting conscious consumption and increasing demand for ethical fashion worldwide. You too can be part of the change.
